with all due respects...
Me friend and I went to a trip to nothingness last Saturday (10 Feb 2007) to Carcar Cebu. Approximately 60 minutes ride from Cebu City to the south. The trip was full of firsts. First, it was my very first time to travel down south as a passenger. Yes, we commuted via mini bus. I enjoyed watching the sights of southern travel. The buildings, people, animals (both beside the road and "on the road"), road filths, seaside view, and the stench smell of waste from God-knows-where. I also did enjoy making the sign of the cross everytime we pass by a local church. Something I always do even when I'm on the wheel. Second of the firsts in the trip was immersing to the local diversity of the bustling town. I had the opportunity to walk around the town square (actually, it's more of a circle) and rustle in the heat of the mid noon sun. Had talked with the locals on their delicacies and some food-prides. Two things I got: (1) They have a good buy chicharon (a kind of pork treat) if you go in their marketplace; and (2) Carcar has got the best tasting lechon (so far) in the whole island of Cebu! e Palabi's Lechon (advert ain't it?)... The best tasting lechon by far! Third of the firsts... hmmm... oh yeah! After a very long time (17 years at least) I had a taste of "tuba" (pron: TOO-ba). "Tuba" is a palm wine with a red coloring. It has a lot of varieties, and basically have tried all. Of all, it is the sweet variety that I love the most. Fourth... it was my first time to go to Tuyom, Carcar. Located at least 7 km from the main road of Carcar, Tuyom is a haven for seaside bums who wants to lay near the shoreline and enjoy the afternoon breeze, the glacing sea, or the simple serenity of the day along with a very few people (less than 20) on the entire stretch. Fifth... it was my first time to buy Carcar-made shoes not bringing my car! Although it seems a bit uneasy on my part to divide my attention between my belongings and our destination, but I have to think that I am here to enjoy the trip and get all the learnings that I can. On the next trip, I don't know what would unfold. I am looking forward to a great trip. I am a traveller, each step counts! ;-)
